H2 Purity Control

Product Description:

The Power+Energy HEMS™  (Hydrogen Elimination Measuremet System) Hydrogen Purity Analyzer is a full spectrum instrument with limits of detection per impurity of < 1 ppb*.  The analyzer is self-calibrating and, with a short analytical cycle time, can be used as an on-line impurity monitor.  The compact package and automatic operation make it easy to use for quick sample verification at multiple points.

The HEMS (Hydrogen Elimination Measurement System) analyzer uses P+E’s patented palladium diffusion technology combined with advanced quadrupole mass spectrometry to achieve sub-parts-per-billion resolution.

Compared to other analyzers, HEMS offers detection of the broadest range of impurities in a compact enclosure with automated operation at an affordable cost.

Suppliers of high purity hydrogen generally provide a certificate of analysis (CoA) with each shipment.

A CoA will typically call out several impurities, eg. O2, H2O, N2, CO, CO2, CH4 , etc . As most analytical instruments can only detect a few of the required impurities, the gas producer or distributor will need to invest in and operate several instruments in order to be able to provide a complete CoA.

Power+Energy HEMS analyzers detect all impurities up to 100 Atomic Mass Units (AMU). HEMS enables producers and distributors to certify their hydrogen gas with a single, easy to operate instrument.

The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) has developed a specification for hydrogen intended for use in a PEM fuel cell in a motor vehicle, SAE J2719.  This same specification has been adopted internationally by the International Standards Organization (ISO).  Importantly the specification sets upper limits for the critical impurities of sulphur and carbon monoxide.  These impurities tend to damage the catalysts in the PEM fuel cell shortening the fuel cell lifetime.  Click here to visit the SAE International Website or here for the ISO Website.

Helping Stations meet SAE J2719

Power+Energy HEMS analyzers detect all impurities called out in SAEJ 2719 with part-per-billion (ppb) levels of resolution.  The HEMS SAE J2719 Hydrogen Analyzer allows fuel providers to certify that their H2 fuel meets industry standards.  HEMS also allows regulators and fuel station operators to verify that fuel being dispensed to the public meets the specification for quality.
